"The Preemie Care app is free and has humanitarian purposes. It supports healthcare professionals in neonatal risk assessment, based on gestational age and birth weight.
The app is for all newborn caregivers, it proposes universal immediate care actions on the day of birth, based on scientific evidence.
It also offers a minimum set of information that can be used when transferring the newborn to a hospital, or reference health unit, favoring the continuity of care.
Pregnant and parturient women are encouraged to seek health services for assistance, however, the barriers and difficulties that can occur are well known. This application was developed especially for low-resource settings, in low and middle-income countries, considering that most cases of maternal death, stillbirths, and neonatal deaths occur in these places. The goal is to identify and take preventive action, based on the WHO recommendations of Intrapartum care for a positive birth experience, to improve the care of the woman giving birth and the newborn.
If you have the Preemie Test medical device, the app will assist you in interpreting the result. If you dont have one, you can also use the app to assess birth conditions.
It is important to know that health conditions and risk at birth depend on numerous variables and existing resources. Neonatal care situations can be complex and require the presence of a neonatology specialist. So be sure to check your health services.
This project is coordinated by the Medical School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Other institutions based in Brazil and Mozambique participate in a collaborative way, through the contributions of their health professionals.
